Liban Kitecruise 2002 - Pictures

kids in byblos downtown
with kites in lebanese colors

...when the day is over...
all very thirsty and dried-out.

It was a very very hot day, and in the morning, after setup, we got news that it was a struggle between different brewing companies, finally we lost sonsorship of the sunshades, and the beer (no problem over day) - but it turned that also the dinking WATER became limited.

flying the kites
from under the shade of a fishermans hut
close to the rocks.
unfortunately, on that day
the sponsor of the sun-roofs
disappeared...

so we went on strike, refused to fly our kites there.
finally, it was too hot - no spectators there, no visitors.
WEIRD.

photo below- few spectators and lot of
officiels (you see our good friend the
ministre of culture) came in the early evening, when the main heat was over.
shake hands, smile to the press, touch a kite and a kid,

- and good bye !

furnace galley -
flying all day in hardest sun
without any shade and low on drinkingwater...
- morituri te salutant.

hard work, all tired,
going back to beirut after a hard day.
half-dead, but happy - because dreaming of IDEA of approaching FAMOUS FOOD.

unfortunately, this year the sponsor for food disappeared.
so, we heard: "...it was a very hard day for us. all. so, now, everyone is very tired. - - - so... as there will be another hard day tomorrow, we cancel the restaurant and go straight to the hotel for to sleep..."
we were supplied with a sandwich in the bus !

hooray. back to the hotel we were very very depressed.
hitchkiked with a typical beirut racing car to an libanese equivalent of a sevenup, baught beers. back to the hotel, and ordered big meals to the rooms - bill "to the house, please!"

salaam sawasdee krap!

third day, flying near rmeileh.

"oceania" -
called "the most expensive beach in libanon"

the exclusive public was not much interested in the kites,
but they managed to steal 3 and destroy 1 of them.
thank you!

wanted back !

we learned: libanese people are very nice in general.
unfortunately, the very rich ones are badly educated, and so their kids. NO POOR ever stole anything from us - all THEFTS were done by RICH KIDS - shame on them !
- better fly in the slums but in "oceana" !!!

a short relax
in toufic's "waterchair"
